Four people were killed and 14 others were wounded by an explosion on Saturday at the largest U.S. military base in Afghanistan, according to officials. NATO confirmed the explosion at Bagram Airfield in the central Parwan province and said protection and medical teams were responding to the situation. “The identity of those killed or wounded are not known yet,” said Haji Abdul Shukur Quddusi, Bagram district chief, adding that local survey teams were not allowed into the airbase after the attack.
Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said on Twitter the group was responsible for the “suicide attack” and that numerous U.S. soldiers were killed and wounded. However, the group is known for making exaggerated claims. Nearly 10,000 U.S. troops are currently stationed in Afghanistan assisting Afghan security forces under the Train, Advise and Assist (TAA) mission.
