The unending call for the immediate resignation of the Transportation Minister and former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, over damning bribery allegation has torn Nigerians apart, with overwhelming Nigerians endorsing the move.
This resignation call, got to its peak on Tuesday, December 20, with the setting up of a Presidential Committee headed by the Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, Abubakar Malami, to investigate top government officials who have been indicted of corruption, which is inimical to the change mantra.
Post-Nigeria, learnt that President Muhammadu Buhari’s insistence in keeping Amaechi, has polarized his cabinet.
In a poll organised by Post-Nigeria, on whether Amaechi should resign as Minister, over bribery allegations, out of 10, 361 votes cast, an overwhelming majority, numbering 8,338 representing 80%‎ of the total votes cast, called for the Minister’s immediate resignation.

‎Recall, that Amaechi is currently in the eye of the storm, over allegations of corruption leveled against him by various Nigerians and Judges.

According to the Judges, Amaechi tried to bribe them, in order to tamper with election Tribunal results.
One of such, is Justice Okoro, who accused Amaechi of attempting to bribe him over the election petition in Akwa Ibom State, in order to aid the All Progressive Congress, APC, Governorship candidate, Umana Umana, clinch the number one position in the State.‎
‎Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, had also accused Amaechi of attempting to use him to win Governorship election cases involving Ekiti, Rivers, and Ebonyi States.
Aside, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, who is Amaechi’s successor, has frequently accused him of corruption.
Paul Cahalan of the UK Daily Mail said, Amaechi has been nicknamed “ATM”, because of “his ability to produce vast sums of money at a short notice.”
“Separately, Amaechi is accused of diverting £140 million of State funds into Buhari’s Presidential campaign, with reports that he paid for media, consultants, and private jets,” Cahalan‎ said.
Also, former Sokoto State, Governor, Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, had in one of his press statement, accused Amaechi of importing corruption into the APC.
‎He said, “APC government says it is fighting corruption, but it is the mother of corruption; it has been the mother of corruption since the day it opened its gates to those five Governors from the new PDP.”
Though, the APC had risen in defence of the Transportation Minister, having insisted that Amaechi is clean, and not guilty as charged.
“We are convinced that God, who has always fought for Amaechi, will continue to save and strengthen him, and will once again vindicate him,” the party said.
The party, however, lambasted Nigerians who have joined in calling on Amaechi to resign, based on the allegations of corruption as not only vindictive, shameless, laughable, and mischievous, but desperate to expose and express their ignorance and evil plots against a man whom they see as the arrowhead of the change agenda.
