As 2016 gradually comes to an end, with the purported failure of President Muhamamdu Buhari, to fight corruption right inside the Presidential palace, Post-Nigeria has uncovered “3 biggest thieves” that have tainted Buhari’s anti-corruption war.

1. SGF, Bachir David Lawal
Babachir Lawal
‎The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal, was indicted over an alleged breach of handling contracts, awarded by the Presidential Initiative for the North-East, PINE
Lawal’s firm was said to have been awarded over N200 million worth of contracts, to clear ‘invasive plant specie’ in Yobe State.
The Committee found that as of the time the contract was awarded in March 2016, Lawal was still the Director of Global Vision, and that he just resigned in September, 2016.
Yet, currently, Lawal is still the signatory to the company’s account.
Lawal’s Directorship of the Global Vision, while being a Public Official – Secretary General of the Federation – contravened Nigeria’s Code of Conduct for Public Officials. as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution, the Senate held.
Global Vision was incorporated in 1990, to carry out ICT services, but it received contracts to clear grass in 2016, even while the owner is a senior government official, the Lawmakers found.

‎2. Chief Of Staff, Abba Kyari
Abba Kyari
Abba Kyari, is alleged to have received the sum of N500 million, from telecommunications company, MTN Nigeria Ltd, to facilitate a reduction in the N1.04 trillion fine imposed on the company, by the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC.
SaharaReporters, had previously published reports linking Abba Kyari to different corrupt transactions. One of such was an allegation that he received money from Jide Omokore, and Oil Magnate presently under investigation for shady deals.

3. EFCC Boss, Ibrahim Magu
Magu
The Department Of State Security, DSS, investigative report on Ibrahim Magu, revealed that in August 2008, following a search at his residence during the tenure of Farida Waziri, Magu was found guilty of action prejudicial to State Security, withholding of EFCC files, sabotage, unauthorized removal of EFCC files, among others.
Magu is currently occupying a residence rented for N40 million, at N20 million per annum. This accommodation was not paid for from the Commission’s finances as alleged.

Further investigations, show that: “Magu regularly embarks on official and private trips through a private carrier, EasyJet. In one of such trips, Magu flew to Maiduguri alongside the Managing Director of a bank, who was being investigated by the Commission, over complicity in funds allegedly stolen.

“On June 24, 2016, he flew Emirates Airlines first class to Saudi Arabia, to perform the less Hajj, at the cost of N2, 990,196.00. This is in spite of Mr. President’s directives to all public servants, to fly economic class.”
The report added: “To cover his tracks, Magu uses solely his Police cronies to execute operations. This, coupled with discoveries that such police cronies have acquired a lot of landed properties, lends credence to the questions about his integrity.”
